Ready for New Sailing

 

In July, 2015, the first offshore drilling rig JINGXUAN of Beijing Petrolor Oilfield Services Co., Ltd. in Indonesian Batam Island has entered the comprehensive debugging stage, waiting for new sailing.

To realize the long-term development goal of “creating a domestic leading company specialized in oilfield services with strong international competitiveness from the domestic to the overseas and from the land to the sea”, the Beijing Petrolor Oilfield Services Co., Ltd., grasping the policy opportunity of “paying equal attention to the land and the ocean, consolidating old oil fields, exploiting new oilfields and breaking through offshore oil fields” and adjusting to changes in the domestic oil services market, purchased two self-elevating offshore drilling rigs JINGXUAN and JINGHANG in June, 2016. This is a crucial step of improving the core competitiveness of the company and ascending into the international offshore drilling services market.

The drilling rigs purchased by the company have the following advantages:

1. Classic design and advanced performance

The drilling rigs adopt the classic design CJ46-X100-D (shown in Fig. 1) of the Dutch GustoMSC company, which are provided with a subtriangular ship body, a camber deck with a flat belt, X-shaped bracing tube truss framed legs, a subhexagonal fully foldable pile shoe, an X-Y sliding type cantilever beam, a living area with a V-shaped head and a gear transmission type lifting system. The integral ship is optimum in structure and sufficient in design, plate thickness changes frequently, elastic node connection is adopted, and the whole ship is made of steel materials with AH36 above level strength. The overall length of the rig is 65.25 m, the width is 62 m, the operating depth reaches 114.3 m, and the maximum drilling depth is 9,144 m. The area of the rig is equal to that of nine basketball courts, and the living building can accommodate 120 people.

All the equipment used on the rig is the world's most advanced marine engineering special equipment. The drilling packages are produced by the world’s top one drilling package manufacturer NOV, the top drives adopt Varco TDS-8SA, and three NOV14-P-220 triplex mud pumps are provided. The winch uses a 3,000 hp AC variable frequency system, and the blowout preventer adopts the NOV Shaffer brand. The power system is constituted by five Caterpillar 3516C HD main generators and one Caterpillar 3516C HD emergency generator, with the total power reaching 8,000 bKW. The generator control system is a whole set of numerical control system which can start up automatically according to load change, connect grids and goes offline after unloading.

2. High utilization ratio in offshore drilling operation

With a strong positioning capability and good operation stability, the self-elevating drilling rig is widely applied to oil gas exploration and development in the continental shelf waters. As it can operate in various marine environment conditions in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, the self-elevating drilling rig earns a strong demand.

3. Stable operation environment and similarity with onshore drilling.

The self-elevating drilling rig, also called the spud type drilling rig, is mainly divided into three major parts: the ship body, spuds and the lifting mechanism. During drilling, the spuds are inserted into the seabed and the ship body lifts upwards along pile legs to leave the sea surface, so the drilling rig is not affected by seawater movement during work. After drilling, the ship body lowers along the pile legs to float on the sea surface, and can be towed to the new well position after lifting a certain height by pulling out the spuds. The self-elevating drilling rig can conduct stable drilling operation in various sea conditions. Besides, as the operation environment of the self-elevating drilling rig is similar to that of onshore drilling, the companies can become familiar with offshore drilling operation as fast as possible.

The drilling rig JINGXUAN about to be put into service is built in January, 2013. It’s classified by American Bureau of Shipping and is manufactured under joint supervision of China Classification Society and Norway OSM Co., Ltd. After construction of the rig main body was finished, JINGXUAN was launched successfully on October 9, 2014 to get into the late stages of debugging and assembly. At present, JINGXUAN has entered the comprehensive debugging stage, with the debugging progress of the marine system, the pile leg lifting system, the cantilever beam sliding system and the drilling system surpassing 60%. The operating group of the company has arrived at the shipyard to start the ship handover work. The ship takeover project group, composed of international talents, CPOE and CCSI, performs inspection from many aspects, such as specification, quality, practicality and market demand, so as to make sure to take over a high-quality drilling rig in September, 2015. After successful launching on April 7, 2014, the drilling rig JINGHANG has also entered the comprehensive debugging stage and is expected to be put into service in December, 2015.

After multiple investigations, our Hong Kong subsidiary in charge of the offshore drilling business has reached cooperation consensuses with intended companies. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong subsidiary is speeding up recruitment of high-end management personnel experienced in offshore drilling, establishment and improvement of various management systems as well as training for related personnel on international drilling market management standards and construction specifications so as to make adequate preparations for successful sailing of JINGXUAN and to lay a solid foundation for a new journey of the company.
